Term Paper: Students will individually prepare one term paper on a topic of his or her choice. The paper should be approximately 4000 words long (8 pages single-spaced with 12 point font and 1 inch margins). This is a research-based paper rather than an essay or case study. The purpose is to choose a topic related to multinational business and to conduct in-depth research using high-quality sources of information. It is not appropriate for students to prepare either an opinion assignment (i.e. an essay) or to prepare a report on an individual corporation (i.e. a case study). The term paper is due on Monday, February 26th at 8:30. High-quality source can include, but are not limited to, academic journals, newspaper or business journal magazine articles, government reports, annual reports or other communications from businesses or books. Blogs, on-line references without a credible source or other materials where it would be difficult to hold authors responsible for their comments are not deemed high-quality sources. Research tools will be discussed in class but students are encouraged to visit the Management Library on the second floor of the Desmarais if they are in need of assistance in locating high-quality sources of information. A minimum of 10 high quality sources is expected of each assignment. Students are encouraged to be creative in defining their topics for the term paper. However, it is essential that the term paper represent their original work. Specifically, students are not to use in whole, or in part, materials prepared for submission and evaluation in other courses. Students should consult with the professor regarding their choices prior to commencing their formal research for the project. The Term Paper is graded out of 20 marks, divided as followed: £ Research 5 marks o Quality and quantity of sources used o Appropriate use of supporting documentation £ All statistics, figures and factual arguments should be supported with references to original works £ Content 10 marks o The extent to which the student has considered all relevant aspects of the topic they have studied o The extent to which the student has balanced their arguments provided differing opinions or interpretations of certain factual information o Students should aspire towards a depth of argument rather than superficially identifying a breadth of arguments £ Presentation 5 marks o Formatting, spelling, grammar etc. o Clarity of arguments, appropriate use of headings and sub-headings to organize thoughts/issues
