For this discussion, share a situation in which a lack of communication led to failures in leadership or failures in criminal justice workplace success. Identify the breakdown in communication and the result. Do you think the aftermath of the situation (correction or lesson learned) was sufficient? What would you do differently?

Communication in leadership is vital for long-term success. Today there are so many ways in which we communicate. Email is a chosen way for most business leadership and can become confusing if not clear and precise. When a conversation occurs between two people face to face questions are asked, tone of voice is heard and facial expressions are shared., With email that is not the case and oftentimes the message can be confusing or misunderstood. I believe face to face is always the best when it comes to the need for conversation. If it is a simple and direct command than email communication works well. 
An example related to my work environment involves email communication with my previous supervisor. He rarely took the time to talk to any of us and would directly communicate everything with email. If he would review a report, he would email what was wrong with it, rather than printing it and sharing his thoughts. He would come across gruff and stern even with the simplest messages. 
My boss now, is totally different and I am reflecting my leadership skills by following his leads. With reports he will print and make his corrections, then hand deliver to see if there are any questions. and if I had any suggestions. I have been with my current job for less than a year and have learned so much about myself and my writing style. Communication is all about learning and growth in the work environment. As challenging as it is, it is also rewarding and valuable.
