Assignment Task
Using references to relevant theories, concepts about probability, estimation of the mean, median and
standard deviation and the line of best fit and its correlation, write an assignment of 2000 words by
answering the following.
Question 1
The following table gives the overtime earnings for 100 employees in A Ltd. Company.
From the table above
A. Prepare a table of values and calculate an estimate for the mean and standard deviation. B. Construct a less than cumulative frequency curve for the data above. C. Use the cumulative frequency graph to estimate the median.
Question 2 There are 8 yellow and 4 red balls inside an urn.
A. Two balls are selected one by one with replacement. What is the probability that the first is yellow and the second is red?
B. What is the probability that the first is yellow and the second is red if the two balls are drawn without replacement?
Question 3 Complete the table with data showing the results of the examinations out of 100 taken by 9 students in Statistics class depicting either a positive or negative correlation.

Solution and discussion in question one. Student needs to provide the table of values to be able to
calculate the mean and the standard deviation. Furthermore, the student needs to provide frequency
cumulative data to be able to construct a cumulative frequency curve to estimate the median. The
discussion of the completion of the table of values, construction of the cumulative frequency curve and
the estimation of the median should be included. (700 words equivalent)
Solution and discussion in question two. Student needs to provide the calculation of the probability in
question A and question B. The discussion of the calculation should be included. (400 words equivalent)
Solution and discussion in question three. Student needs complete the table depicting either a positive
or negative correlation. Plot the corresponding ordered pairs in the table to draw a scatter graph, draw a
line of best fit and comment on the correlation and work out for the gradient of the line of best fit. The
discussion of plotting points to draw a scatter graph, line of best fit, gradient of the line of best fit and
the correlation should be included. (500 words equivalent)

Plagiarism, which can be defined as using without acknowledgement another persons words or ideas and submitting them for assessment as though it were ones own work, for instance by copying, translating from one language to another or unacknowledged paraphrasing. submitted and passed off as solely as the work of one person. This also applies where the work
of one candidate is submitted in the name of another. Where this is done with the knowledge of
the originator both parties can be considered to be at fault.
3. Fabrication of data, making false claims to have carried out experiments, observations,
interviews or other forms of data collection and analysis, or acting dishonestly in any other way.
